All classes must maintain an enrollment of at least 6 dancers in order to remain active on the class schedule. Classes that fall below that minimum for one month may be cancelled or may revert to the “create your own” class rates.
Attendance
Students should be dressed and ready to begin class on time. Classes begin with warm-up so it is very important to be on time to reduce the risk of injury. If a dancer is late for more than 15 minutes they may be asked to observe class to avoid this risk. This is for safety precautions and should not be perceived as punishment. Regular attendance is essential if the student is to progress. Students who miss frequently have a difficult time keeping up and may begin to feel unsuccessful. If a class must be missed, it may be made up in an alternate class during the month in which it was missed. Please notify the desk if your dancer must miss their class.
If an injury occurs, the student is highly encouraged to attend class to observe and learn from the lessons taught. (Company members, please read your contract on this matter)
Attire
Tot and I: Children may dress in leotard and tights and ballet shoes or alternatively they may dress like their adult partners in simple, moveable clothing such as a tshirt and shorts or leggings with no embellishment.
FUNdamentals of Dance and Ballet: Pink tights, black leotard and pink canvas or leather ballet shoes. Skirts can be a safety hazard, so please leave them home!
Jazz, Modern: leotards and jazz pants or leggings. Shirts and shorts are not to be worn over dancewear. Cover-ups should be worn outside the studio.
Dancewear may be purchased at the studio through Dancer’s Boutique. We encourage that students have professional fittings for shoes to ensure a safe and secure fit.
Calendar
2025-2026 classes begin Tuesday, September 2, 2025. The studio observes major holidays, i.e. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break. All other holidays and school free days will not disrupt the regularly scheduled classes. If school is canceled due to weather conditions, please call (804)694-5900 or refer to the parent portal to verify cancellation and make-up schedule.
Dance Etiquette
Dance is a disciplined art form and requires that students always exhibit behavior that is respectful and responsible. Students are expected to refrain from talking, give their full attention during class, and ask permission before leaving class. Hair must be off the neck, away from the face and secured. Dancers in all ballet and FUNdamentals classes must have their hair in a bun. All food and gum will remain outside the studio. Please leave jewelry at home; it is distracting and is a safety concern.
Conduct in the lobby and dress rooming should be considerate and respectful at times. Bullying, negativity towards other dancers or families, and horseplay will not be tolerated. Volumes should be kept low as there are other classes going on in the building at that time. Repeated failure to follow these guidelines may result in dismissal from the studio.
Parking
Ample space is available in the parking lot facing the front studio entrance.
Student Health
Parent’s signature on the Enrollment Application denotes that their child/children are physically, emotionally, and mentally able to fully participate in all dance activities.
Tuition
Tuition is based on a 35-week year and broken into 10 installments, due and payable on the first of each month. All accounts not paid by the seventh of the month will be charged a $5.00 late fee. Tuition is non-refundable and will not be reduced for missed classes. Makeup classes are available so check with your teacher. Payment may be made by cash or checks or card online. Checks may be mailed to PO Box 565, Gloucester, VA, 23061. Returned checks incur a $50 fee.
Parents/Legal Guardians are responsible for tuition payments in full until the studio owner is notified in writing of a student's withdrawal. Dancer(s) may NOT withdraw after May 1st due to end-of-year performance preparations. In the case of a student withdrawing, the unpaid balance
Report of Progress
Friends and families are invited to watch their dancers in classes February 2-6, 2026. We love to share the dancers’ progress with you, but it is important that all attendees exhibit appropriate audience decorum so as not to interrupt dancers’ focus or the flow of class.
Observation
Parents of our young FUNdamentals students may escort their dancer to the studio and observe from the door for a limited amount of time and return to the lobby to wait. If there is an issue they may return for a few more minutes. The area is very small and to not cause distractions in class it is necessary that we manage the observations in this way. Please speak with the teacher to arrange to observe.
Recital
A Spring recital is tentatively scheduled for early June 2026. Please be on the lookout for more information coming soon.
